I feel totally let down.I spent a hour on an application which was advetised .it is my dream job,and and prayed and prayed that i would be shortlisted....but what happens...i get shortlisted and interview is on the week that i am going away. i called HR,they couldn't be bothered to hear me and out and told me to speak to the manager.Manager didn't even give me a chance to explain and said that they could not reschedule because they need someone quickly.I am sure even if they give me the job,it is at least going to take 2-3 weeks to everything out.AHHHHHH..i feel disappointed. This holiday had been booked for months now,i can't let my family down.
I feel the urge to write to them about how i feel.
thanks for listening

The employer will have set aside certain days for interviewing. Unless you are a particularly outstanding candidate, there is no reason why they should make special arrangements for you.
I would not write to them about how you are feeling, all you will do is eliminate yourself from being considered for any future roles with them. It would be more suitable to write and say that you are sorry that you could not attend this interview, however you would like to be considered for any future vacancies that may arise.Gone ... or have I?0 -

I suppose you are right.I just to have to put it down to that it is one of those things in life that we don't have control. thanks for you thoughts anyway.:o0 -

I have to agree with dmg24. There are hundreds of people applying for single vacancies at present. With say 20 to interview would it be reasonable for the employer to make adjustments for every interviewee who requests a different interview date? I do feel for you in your situation because it is such a difficult decision but very often recruitment eats into company productivity time and therefore disruption is kept to a minimum where possible.
Is this a holiday abroad? Is it partner and kids travelling or is it you travelling with your parents? If it was the latter I would consider staying behind personally.
It's a gamble but life is full of those unfortunately.......0 -
Your situation is very unfortunate and I can totally relate to it. I had a dream job interview lined up at the NHS about 6 years ago. I clearly stated on the application that I would not be able to attend an interview on so and so date due to holiday commitments and guess when they wanted me to attend an interview.
I was incredibly annoyed because they would not reschedule it (apparently according to them it was unfair on other candidates) and I mentioned to them what was the point in me putting on what day I couldn't attend the interview on the application form if they are just going to ignore or not read it !
It makes me despair at some of the brains of people working in H.R
A further footnote to this was that the useless HR dept wrote to me after I got back from holiday to say I was unsuccessfull at my interview when I didn't even attend for reasons already explained. How useless are they ??0 -
If its your dream job then stay and go to it. Plenty of time for holidays once you have nailed that job
Do you think you stand a good chance? If so i would go to the interview.
Also, i suppose it is fair enough that they cannot make special allowances. It means rescheduling their work and it is unfair on other people. There may be other people who have cancelled things to go to the interview too."You dont need a weather man to know which way the wind blows"0 -

Yeh a tough choice !! Do I cancel my holiday already booked and lose £800 or attend the interview when I probably will not get the position0 -

Ahhh sorry, didn't realise it was with your family. Hope you have a good time anyway. Will be worth it to see your little boy having fun
Wish i was going on holiday too!!
I would do what someone said before and write them a nice letter saying you are sorry you cannot attend but would very much like to be considered for future posts, should one arise. Good luck
