BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
thought this could be answered on here rather than start a new thread-
these accounts that you can have once BR. ive read they are electron accounts, is that right?
can these be used like a switch card? say if i was going to a restaurant would I be able to use this type of card? just wondering how life would be paying for things etc.
and do you only open these accounts after BR?
(hope you dont mind me asking on here TheGoodLife)0 -

can these be used like a switch card? Not quite, with these the machine should check if you have the available funds in your bank or it will refuse the payment request (though it sometimes doesn't ask the bank if it is a low amounts, depends on a shops floor limit) say if i was going to a restaurant would I be able to use this type of card? just wondering how life would be paying for things etc. I reckon it is accepted at about 95% of outlets. Most of us don't have a problem with it.
and do you only open these accounts after BR? The Co-op is a very BR bank and allows you to open the Cashminder before BR and won't in general freeze the account, if they do a quick from the OR unfreezes it. The only problem is if you have the Brighton OR, they don't like you using it and make you close it and open a new one for some reason not understood by anyone.

Hope that helpsBSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
Thanks TigerFeet.
Sorry one more question.... I hear about people saying they have been discharged after a year, do you still use these accounts after being discharged or are you able to gain another account with more flexibility? (i'm just asking as I spend alot of time abroad with work and sometimes account cards are a problem).
How long would I have to stick to the coop or barclays card for?0 -
You will still have difficulty getting a normal directly after BR but that becomes easier as the months pass and some people have been able to get upgraded accounts. To be honest though a lot are so happy with their accounts they still use them after discharge.
I have used my electron card abroad with no problems. Another option to have as well as your account is to get a pre paid cash card like the Cashplus card, a lot of us use these.

You have to go BR in the court in the area you have been for the last 3 months I think it is.
Everyone on here who opened an account before BR with the Brighton OR has had it closed, though Co-op in most cases have been fantastic at getting a new account sorted asap and things changed over.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -

I believe it's the court in the area you've resided in for the majority of the preceding 6 months - or at least that's what my local court said.2019 MFW No. 74 £13700/£30000 (45.66%)
12k in 2018 No. 98 £6274.19/£18000 (34.85%)
BTL (start) £97440.00 (current) £68000.00
Residential (start) £275000.00 (current) £268000.000 -
I had a Lloyd's account before going BR. I did put it on my paper work
and OR said that they did not have any interest in my account, so
I still have it.Sealed Pot Number 018 🎄2009..£950.50 🎄2010..£256 🎄 2011..£526 🎄2012..£548.80 🎄2013...£758.88🎄2014...£510 🎄2015...£604.78 🎄2016...£704.50 🎄2017...£475 🎄2018...£1979.12 🎄2019...£408.88🎄2020...£1200.63...🎄2021…£588 🎄2022 £672… 🎄2023 £3,783.90 🎄2024…£3,882.57🎄2025…£4083.🎄20260
