BT didn't tell me about charge

Hi all. I had my BT phone line cut off for not paying my bill. When I finally had the money, I paid it and asked them to put me back on. They did so (with a new number) but then sent me a bill for re-connection. They didn't tell me they were going to charge me so I'm a bit annoyed. Do I have to pay it?

I think it boils down to do you want a BT line or not (if you don't pay, they'll just disconnect you again).
Their T&Cs appear quite clear on the subject:If the reconnection is from a previous Home Highway line, or from customers who've been disconnected for non-payment, or if external wiring has to be provided, charges will apply. Reconnections require a minimum 12 month term and are subject to a credit check (deposit may be required)Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
hmmph. ok thanks Heinz. Another case of bad customer service I just have to accept!0

even though with most contracts with telephone companies you need to read every bit of small print....i have always known from it being put on your bill that disconnection will result in you having to pay a reconnection charge.....i'd imagine they use it as a deterrent to make sure people pay their bill0

Why is it bad customer service that BT charged you for reconnection due to failure to pay the bill? If you had paid it and fulfilled your side of the contract, then you wouldn't have been charged?Comping wins this month: 2 x business class flights anywhere we like | Horse vitamins (!) | New kettle | Motorcycling prints | Signed LPs | Thanks to all!0

If you hadn't not paid your bill, you wouldn't be in the situation you are now, should have set up monthly DD payments, no worries then. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
