What can I do about landlords mail?

Hi,
First time posting here so please be kind.
We live in a private rented house and go through an agent for paying rent, repairs etc.
We've been here 6 months tomorrow. 3 months ago we started getting post in the name of the LL's wife, which we save up for a bit and take to the agent to be passed on. About a month later we started getting post for a person we had not heard of which we were redirecting back to the post office after checking with the agent that it wasn't previous tenant or the like. Then we start to get letters in the name of this random person and the LL's wife jointly so obviously they are known to each other. This has now got to the point where it is p'ing me off. They are now getting more post than we do! The agent is about 8 miles from us so its costing us money to get the post to them. And quite frankly I don't think it's right.
Am I being petty? Should I just keep taking the letters to the agent and keep quiet or am I within my rights to insist the landlords wife and whoever else get their mail redirected? Does this come under the right to quiet enjoyment thing I've been reading about on here?
Opinions gratefully received

We had a similar problem, we took the mail to the EA's for the first month but after that we put it back in the post office which is right outside the door. Regardless of what it was.

If they have not sorted it they either don't care - or will soon realise it's something important missing and fix the problem.

Giving the EA notice that this is what you will do in future would be polite, and will give them chance to fix it. Although - they may not give a monkeys.

You have no responsibility to transfer the post on to the agent or LL, although you are not supposed to open it or destroy it either.

Get a stamp or some stickers with 'not at this address, return to sender', each letter that comes through, stamp and post back. This normally stops a good proportion of mail, although banks and the like not so much. Simlarly, you can also stamp the redirection address and put it back in the postbox, it will normally get delivered (my parents do this for me if the odd thing ends up back at home) and although you can't guarantee that, so what, it's not your problem.

If it is junk mail, you can put the names on the mailing preference service database too, which is a government system to minimise this sort of stuff.

Finally, you can write to your LL, state that you aren't happy with this, and that they need to arrange redirection themselves as you will not be providing a forwarding service for them.

Take the simple, easy route of shoving the post back to whoever is sending it. Stick the post back in the mail box as 'return to sender'.

There is no legal obligation on your part to forward mail. It is up to the previous occupants to arrange to have their mail redirected.

You are not being petty, other people's post has nothing to do with you and you are not responsible for dealing with it.

As a courtesy, you can tell the agent that this is what you are now doing as you are getting deluged with mail.
  • Thanks for your replies. I shall inform the agents that in future I will be returning to sender. Ta very much
