Late Clearance transaction

Hi, i dont know if this has happened to anyone else, but right now i am so upset at what has happened. I made a debit card transaction in March of this year with our local Co-op store for purchases and cashback to the tune of £70. My bank has just honoured this transaction today, 5 months late and brought my account into over my overdraft limit.
I have spoken to my bank and they suggested i contact the Co-op. Which is what i did do and they said that apparently on the 20th of March there was a problem with their I.T.collection site, but only 2 stores in our area were affected, thus resulting now in a late clearance/collection. The Co-op have offered to refund me my overdraft charge but i am not sure now how i go about sorting the rest of this out.
Basically i am so upset and feel defeated because of the state of my account and i am not confident this will be resolved through my local bank and i cant face it all right now, i have been trying so hard to keep within the limits, its just one other piece of bad news this week i really did not need. Can anyone suggest what i do now and surely there would be a cut off date for a collection?

Unfortunately the merchants have up to 6 months in order to take their transaction from your account. And you pressed the green button or "ok" so you authorised that transaction.

They can take the money when ever they like unfortuntely after reading some other posts on here it appears this not all that uncommon. Did you not notice that they had not taken the money from your account? Only thing i can suggest is you speak to the bank and see if they will give you a temporary overdraft increase so as to avoid further charges then claim back what you have already been charged by the bank from the co-op. I'm sure someone with a lot more knowledge will along shortly who may have some better advise.

This is why i watch every penny coming and going from my account where my debit card is concerned.

I'd accept the co-op offer - they've no obligation to refund you, so before they change their mind....
  • :j:j I am so grateful and thankful to the Co-op. Here is why, after contacting the Co-op again with an up to date statement and details of the daily amount i would be charged for being overdrawn they very kindly are going to pay through bacs straight into my account the amount to bring me back inside my limit and one days overdraft charge. :D Overwhelmed to say the least. Thankyou everyone for your wecomed advice.
