HP slimline desktop problems

I have an HP pavilion slimline 3040.uk which has developed a fault whereby there is no video output to the monitor from the PC. Seemingly this is widespread and is down to faulty Nvidia graphics cards and affects many HP slimline desktops and various laptops too.

HP do seem to be aware of this - see http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01514044

for affected model numbers - apparently a new mother board is needed.

I have intimated my problem to HP tech support and am awaiting their response, but wonder if anyone else has had the same problem and what response they got from HP.
