Real Estate Agents Advertising Board

Hi All

I moved in to a place I bought about 3 weeks ago and the real estate agent still has their sold sign up in front of the place to milk out free advertising. I have asked them to remove it but they still haven't, so can I just take it down and throw it out? or do I have to take it down and keep it somewhere for them to collect?

Thanks

When did you ask for it to be taken down? It sometimes takes the sign company a few days to get to it, but if it's annoying you then just take it down. Can you leave it down the side of the house or something so they can pick it up?

Thanks for the reply, I asked them to take it down last week so I will give them until Friday before I take it down. I can leave it behind the front wall so its out of sight. I guess I will call them on Monday to tell them when I left it just to be polite I guess?

Its amazing (well not surprising though) that they return your calls immediately when you are looking to buy and then ignore you afterwards...

Are you sure it is a 'real' estate agent, and not a false one.:rotfl:

If you asked last week I would just take it down, it shouldn't really take them longer than 3 working days to get to you. Just give them a call and tell them where you've left it, also let them know it will only be there for a week before you skip- I bet they come and pick it up, these things cost money! Or you could drop it in to their office :D

It is illegal for the boards to be up for more than 14 days after a sale/let under planning regulations governing advertising. If I recall correctly trading standards police this (not very actively). Reminding them of this fact is the hardball way to get it removed (it has worked for me within a day every time).

You are allowed to take the board down but not to dispose of it or damage it. Of course if the sign were to disappear then how are they to prove it was you? Although sometimes agents do try billing people when signs disappear they can't really do anything about it.

  • I actually saw someone bring a board back to the EAs across the road from us and erect it outside their office with a sold board on it...that got moved quite quickly! Just goes to show how great they are, the entire office is closed because they have all gone on a training afternoon/excuse for a p*ss up.
