Sky+ faulty ? Pleeeease help !

Hi everyone, hope I am posting this on the right forum ? My Sky+ box started making a funny noise yesterday but I was not too worried. However I have come down this morning and can get no picture ? I unplugged it and left it for about 10 minutes before trying to restart, alas still no pictures although I could hear the customer greeting. I have had it for 2 years in October. Please does anyone have any suggestions ? It is school holidays and my little boys are not too happy and they have only been up for 30 minutes !!!

Many thanks,
Bek

Despite it being out of Warranty, a call to Sky may offer some solutions over the phone.

Could be a faulty hard drive -- If sky try to get you to pay for a call-out you could tell them you're goona cancel you subscription & they may give you a free call-out -- Dave

It's a bit of a long shot but have you checked your scart cable, if it works slightly loose you can get the problem you have.

I'd ring sky they've been very good when I had problems. I called with box problems (still under warrantee) and it turned out to be the large tree in the street blocking my signal, The lad moved the dish for free even though it was not a fault with the box. If you have no luck with sky than your local installer may be able to help as many of them work freelance on the side. Mine gave me his number when he did the installation and has been back and fitted a freesat box as a private job for half the price of the sky installation.
  • If you have sound but no picture, turn off the sky+ box again & then check all of the connections going from the sky+ to the tv, its sound like a scart related problem that you describe. HTH

sounds to me like a scart problem... also try an RF lead... try scart in the second scart socket on the sky box, or an alternative connection on the TV, simply unplug and choose a difference slot, and put TV on the corresponding channel...

Maybe your kids have messed with TV settings like brightness and contrast, all down to ZERO, hence blank picture... try a DVD/ VCR does it show a picture. if so, its not a TV fault.

Try a replacement scart, borrow one from the DVD player for a second just to try it!!

Or do you have the old basic sky box, process of elimination, no you can't just swap the cards unless you inform sky about the box change, but it will give you some basic channels like CBeebies, or CBBC for now.

they may want a call out fee if they attend, just tell them you want cancellations (if your out of contract) and they will send engineer for free normally as they dont want disconnections. At any cost.

Look for a credit also, due to non service... :-)

    Good luck have fun!!

    Happy holidays lol
