You are looking at the wrong thing.. look for black and white printing only a Laser, high quality pro output and cheap to run also have multi function built in too.
As mentioned go to high street for colour photos.0 -
Look at Brother All - in - Ones for a good printer with very low cost cartridges, I have 3 of them, excellent machines.
I get compatible cartridges for under 2 quid each delivered.
They also have 3 colour cartridges so no need to throw away a cartridge when one colour runs out.0 -
Depending on how 'occasional' your use is - be wary.
In my experience, Epson cartridges can dry out or clog if not used regularly. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Epson printers are cheap, compatibles are also cheap, go for compatible which are chip6 and contain around 18ml in each cartridge, can be picked up for little money, see an ad yesterday 12 of them for £7.88 including delivery on ebay for the SX200 and other models.
1 small note about epsons they had an ink pad, when the pad fills up it WILL stop working, the best option to get around this, is to buy a length of tube, and a coupler, and have the waste in go into an external source, like a plastic bottle, which can be replaced cheaply and quickly.
Reason espon done this is so they can make money on repairs, but the cost of repairing would be more expensive than replacing with a new one, it would have been better if they had a pullout on the printer, aka undo 1 screw, slide out the filled container, empty container/replacement put back in. tell printer new container is in, printer ready to go until the next time.
Look on youtube about the extension pipe and external containers.0 -
I have always had HP printers and most of them are great (though I briefly owned a £50 all in one which was rubbish so I exhanged it for a D5100 which is great). One thing with the ink cartriges is that some can be recycled at tesco for 100 points a pop (worth £4 in deals) which can significantly offest your ink costs (there's now a limit of 30 per year) check here which cartridges you can recycle http://www.tesco.com/greenerliving/what_we_are_doing/recycling_waste/printer_table.page?

Oh, I always by origninal, in date HP cartridges off ebay and they have always been great (you have to choose ones which state they are in date though). Check on ebay for availablity as some are easier to get hold of (and so cheaper than others).0
