And Germany and France are two of the most sclerotic, moribund, regulation choked, Euro fettered, economies in the world according to Clown. Economies which cant hope to match nimble free market Britain for innovation and economic dynamism.

You couldnt make it up - what an absolute

    From the BBC article...

Britain was more exposed when the downturn struck, and not just because of its reliance on the financial sector.
UK consumers are more in debt than those in much of mainland Europe.
It is a legacy of a pre-occupation with property ownership and the huge levels of credit, which supported the economy for so long.
It means that while Germany and France are seeing the return of some domestic demand, consumers in the UK will not be able to simply spend their way out of the recession

If France and Germany are spending their way out of the recession, why are the bears congratulating them?

I thought you were all in favour of us saving and paying down debt, not trying to get positive GDP growth?

Its weird isnt it. Only 1/6 of the cars sold in britain are made in britain. And none of them are actually British. An awful lot of them are german or french however.

The scrappage scheme was really popular and new car registrations have soared.

Then britain's economy keeps shrinking, and germany and france's go up a bit.

Theres some sort of correlation. (assumes Shatneresque concentration face) .. I just... cant quite... work it... out
  • The "growth" figures are actually a mathematical aberation.
The increase in GDP was caused by a sharp reduction in imports rather than 'growth' in the economy per se.

I dashed to this thread thinking Mr. Broderick had got a new ID. Sadly not the case.

France and germany have car manufacturers , and buy their own cars , the brits though slag their own off then complain when they go to wall that its the govts fault even after getting handouts from them.Perhaps if they were part owned like french ones by the govt then things would be better.

The eu want to stop us propping up our banks even though the likes of france does it with its car makers.Baiscally to kill us off as its germany thats behind it they drive the eu legislation.

France and germany arent preoccupied with home ownership as a second income or retirement and prefer leasing/renting instead.

The eu by large do not have a benefits system or nhs approaching the likes of ours neither , yet tell us we have to pay benefits to expats that are on their soils.

Do we need the eu , no , do we need the euro well ask ireland if short game has led to lifelong pain.

ps the scrappage scheme should have been only for british cars and manufactured models...but guess what france and germany would have had to say about that. Its one thing to say open market but its another thing altogether when the locals only buy local with their allowance.
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Thought KIA was the best selling manufacturer by a clear margin. Are they made in Europe?
