New way to save money??

Hi

i have an idea for saving extra money when shopping.

Anything you buy cheaper than normal put difference in price away in a jar or something. That way you will be saving as well as shopping normally.

Please could you all let me know what you think.

Sorry if i have put this into the wrong place. move it if necesary.

Dee.

Yeah that sounds good, having something to aim for always helps and just think how much more stress free xmas will be.

I'm gonna have a think and see how I can utilise it into my life!! Thanks.

Hi there, there is a challenge on the OS board called 'PMS challenge' which is exactly what you are talking about. There are loads of ideas on there about it.

I did the challenge myself when I first came to MSE, and managed to save a lot of money, which in turn I used to buy things that would save me more money:)

    Its here

I dont think there has been a 2009 challenge but it used to be a monthly challenge not a yearly one. If you put PMS challenge into the forum search you will find lots of old posts:)

PMS btw means Pin Money Savings :) It comes from when the housewives managed to squirrel away a penny here and a penny there etc for luxuries (ironically comes from Catharine Howard introducing pins to England when married to Henry VIII - they were so expensive that ladies got a seperate allowance for pins from their husbands (the posh ladies that is :) )
I do the same - I got £140 for a phone I "recycled" which I spent £40 on food that week, the remaining £100 Tesco voucher I have put in a seperate section in my purse along with the £5 voucher I got from work (to celebrate the take over of our company HA!) and also my savings card that I keep topping up with £1 stamps when I have pound coins in my purse. If I have a £2 coin I stick it in my terramundi (if I have more than one I only put 1 in though or I'd never have change!!!)

Some find it easier to save the money they have saved by using vouchers - some do all of the above :)
But putting the money to one side is definitely a good idea otherwise it just gets spent ;)
