Help....Lloyds tsb and student o/d charges

Hi...Just in need of a little help....I have an overdraft limit of £1500, last month I went 24p over my overdraft limit and have just had £51 overdraft charges taken out of my account and taking me overdraft again....I am a student nurse and only have my nhs bursary to get by on...and because of these charges I am overdrawn again by £49.....I currently live in my overdraft as I have to and do not earn enough money to get by one without using my overdraft...any advice would be much appreciated thanks

My personal opinion is to switch to NatWest who do not charge you if you exceed the overdraft.
EDIT: however, I would ask the bank to refund as a gesture of goodwill.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

  • Hi,

I had the same problem with lloyds when I was at uni, was charged £30 for going a pound over. I phoned and was told they couldn't remove the charges (which is a lie!) Did you only go overdrawn the one day as they've charged you more than they usually do? If I were you I would go into your local branch and ask to speak to someone about your student account and appeal/put it in writing as this amount of charges is nothing short of a disgrace- shouldn't be charged anything for going 24p over!

Just for future reference, if you go overdrawn you have until 3.30pm to pay the money in and you won't get charged. I check internet banking everyday to be extra sure because, as you know, they are ruthless!!
