British Gas no bill over a year
Hi guys,
I appreciate your advice here. We moved into a new build last April, we informed British Gas when we moved in with starting meter reading for both electricity and gas. Electricity set up all ok, but not gas. I have been calling and emailing for the bill, but no bill received. Last month, we were sent a bill for £500 without any details for immediate settlement. I then rang BG and they said the account is still under builder's name.
I then rang BG customer service and was told there was a note in their system to write off whole year's gas. They are due to call me back for the current meter reading.
Has anyone be in similar situation before? I know they can only backdate for a year, but write off a year bill really as i was told?
Any advice is appreciated. thanks.

They are only obliged to knock off the excess older than a year, but often they'll knock off more as a goodwill gesture in cases like this.
See what they bill you and then decide next step."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Thanks Premier. Much appreciated.
Another questions is I am thinking about switching to EDF Online version 5 which is supposed finish soon. I have not settled the dispute with BG yet, can I go ahead with transfer to EDF anyway in case miss the deal?

BG will likely block your attempt to swap until the dispute is resolved.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

They would not block the swap but would chase you for outstanding amounts, no matter wherever you shift in the UK.
