Want to start on eBay but no idea

Hi
I want to start selling things on eBay to make a bit of extra cash but don't know where to start.
I have a PayPal account for personal use.
Questions
>> Anything legal I need to do? Taxes? VAT register?
>> What should I sell that seems popular enough to make a steady income?
>> Could postage become an issue?
Not sure if this is the right website for this but people here seem friendly enough to help.
Thank you

The ones who can spell are:rolleyes:there not all that freindly!
If you're buying to resell, you need to register for tax. If you plan on taking over £68,000 in a year (I think that's the threshold) then you have to register for VAT, below that it is voluntary.
What to sell is the million dollar question. My advice is to stick with items you have knowledge in, if you try and work in a market you know nothing about you will quickly lose money. The most popular items are the most competitive, harder to source and harder to earn a profit on.
"Could postage become an issue", no idea what you mean by that, its a bit vague..0 -
Thank you for your information.
Ignore the postage question, bit stupid of me to put it on really.
I'll do a bit of research on the subject and that should clear it up for me.
Thanks again0 -

OP, are you buying to sell or just selling personal items? If you're buying to sell, you have to register as a business.Undergrad law student. Take my advice with a pinch of salt! :rotfl:0 -
...and should register as a business seller on ebay....If you're buying to resell, you need to register for tax. ...
Regarding paypal, you'll need to upgrade (or create a new) paypal account - the basic level one will soon hit the limits.
If you are a business, then you may as well have a business paypal account too. Otherwise, if you are not buying goods to sell, but simply selling items you own and no longer require, you can have a Premier Paypal Account"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
