It is indeed unfair but it is common:O(

My employer doesn't pay for Dr's appts, it has to be taken as annual leave or go out of hours. My other half's employer is actually worse still - they don't even get paid sick leave.

I did have a series of appts a few years ago at our local Hospital and I asked if it was possible that I could have late or early appts which meant I didn't miss so much work. They did their best and I had quite a few 8 a.m. appts which wasn't too bad. I know several clinics at our Hospital now offer evening appts too. It may be worth asking.

    Hope you are well soon.

It's horrible to find yourself in this situation, isn't it, as you say through no fault of your own. Most people don't plan to be having to lose pay because of their health (myself included!) and it comes as such a blow when it happens and makes life difficult. I wish you all the best and hope that you are soon recovered.

    Good luck :D

It is horrible, especially when it isn't your fault and you are trying to do your best. We have sick leave and I often think our employer is indirectly encouraging staff to phone in sick for the full day rather than letting them take a few hours off for a Hospital/Dr visit.

Have a good look through your staff handbook if you have one. It may also be worth having a chat with someone in your HR office if you have one.

I don't think they are Savvy Sue, even if the OP has a disability. The DDA allows for reasonable time off for hospital appointments for those disabled under the Act, but it doesn't mean that the time off has to be paid.
Fair enough ... but it's worth bearing in mind if HR start getting sniffy about how many appointments the OP has had.

Yes, you are entirely right Savvy Sue, it may have a bearing in the future beyond whether razorbladekisses gets paid for her appointments or not if they start to get mumpy about the time she is taking off :) I think I was too abrupt in my response to you, as I thought you were simply referring to the payment question. I do apologise :)

Just to clarify my appointments aren't in relation to any disability although thank you for mentioning the rules relating to this. My appointments are with a social worker.

No need, I didn't think you were being abrupt, and I don't really know much about the ins and outs of it all, just thought it might be something for the OP to be aware of, but sounds like it's not relevant anyway!

Hope you get it sorted ...
