Video Editing and DVD Software?

Hi,
I have a canon sd camcorder and have built up a few bits of footage which I would like to burn onto a DVD so that it can be played on a DVD player (not just on a computer). I started by using Windows Movie Maker and published the edited clips. However, it doesn't allow me to put chapters in and it WON'T play on a DVD player (I also find that it crashes a lot with bigger clips).
In a nutshell I am looking for recommendations for a good video editing programme that will allow me to easily edit and then publish my movies on a DVD so that it will play on a DVD player.
Thanks very much for any help

I use "Sony Vegas Movie Studio", it works well but has a very steep learning curve.0

Movie maker as implemented on XP does not have a DVD burning facility. You have to use something like Roxio creator to do this.
Vista HP up has Windows DVD maker which would do as you wish. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I have found from a canon camcorder that the files are not recognised (thm, BUP, ifo, & VOB). I used AVS video editor as a free sample which has allowed me to watch & edit the video, but I end up with a brand watermark in the final product, so pretty useless! Are there any free media compressors which dont show a watermark, or can anyone recommend a good but cheap one?0

absolutely brilliant, drop file in, it will encode, put a menu in and setup chapters every 5 min#0 -
Have a look at http://www.videohelp.com/ there are loads of guides to convert and burn DVDs, some of them using free software.0
