Caravan in Whitby near the Abbey?

Hello! We would like to hire a caravan on the site at the back of Whitby Abbey, the one right at the top of the cliff, with the rickety path down to the beach. Hoseasons do caravans there but they are expensive! We'd like to pop off for the odd weekend and possibly a week in the summer with our little grandson, so I wondered if anyone knew of a privately rented van we could hire on this site! I might just wait and see if Hoseasons reduce their rates as the season wears on, but don't know if they actually do that.
:hello:  please play nicely children !

Hi Barnsleylass,
Your're not on the best board for advice on this. If you scroll down towards the bottom right hand corner of your screen, find the "Forum Jump" menu, and go to "Travel, Trips and Holidays" (five further up the list than Old Style) you should get some good advice
Hope you find what you're looking for

Hi barnsleylass,
Welcome to MSE
As Bargain Rzl says you are more likely to get replies on the travel board, so I'll move your thread over there.

err, Thanks, of course I am in the wrong place! This is the first time I have ever used your boards, so sorry! This is a really useful site, I have spent almost all the weekend reading the tips and ideas. At this rate, I will be able to retire early. Thanks:hello:  please play nicely children !0

I've had the same problem. There are no holiday camps in Whitby at all unless you have your own caravan or tent. The next option would be to hire a cottage. There is a site for cottages in Whitby:

Thanks, I wanted an old fashioned bucket and spade holiday, you know, right next to the beach, with the wind blowing through your hair, Looks like we might have to look for an apartment or a cottage ! My grandson is a bit of a whirlwind, so I'd prefer a caravan really, for everyone else's sake! Thanks for the link. I will take a look!:hello:  please play nicely children !0

Knowing Whitby well, and being very fond of it, I looked at the Whitby cottages website and I am amazed at the low standard of the properties as shown.
Frankly, if this is the best that Whitby can offer, I'm going somewhere else!Filiss0 -
I think Whitby can charge more because it seems to have lots of international visitors, I saw lots of americans there last summer. Bed and breakfast is reasonable, but we wanted the freedom of having a caravan or cottage so we dont have to panic if our grandson throws a tantrum or two! I think I will wait and see if Hoseasons reduce their prices nearer the school holidays.:hello:  please play nicely children !0

Robin Hoods Bay isnt far and has a campsite? Lovely little place, have you tried there?
If not get yourself further up north and check out the northumbrian coast line, you can hire a chalet at South Shields within a few feet of the sand0 -

I think it might have a lot of international visitors because of its new 'Goth' status (or maybe not so new
)
My friend and her family go every year, and stay in B+B I think, but I'll find out if you like?
And she's as timid as anything, but loves Goths
It can get rowdy at times though. So if you can drive, I'd stay just outside as allym suggested.
Good luck though and report back please? It's one of my favourite places too
