Can my laptop be rescued?

My laptop charger broke so I brought a new one on ebay. Unfortunately I didn't realise they had voltage difference and after a few days it made a popping noise. Now it will not switch on.
Have I broke it completely? or do you think it can be fixed? if so how much would we be looking at?
I have no clue what so ever about techie stuff so sorry if this sounds thick LOL
