Impossible to obtain a policy from homeserve

  • Well, eventually Homeserve arrived again at my Mother's house to actually repair the leak this time.

However this wasn't before they failed to turn up in the morning as had been arranged so a few more phone calls had to be made. They always suggest to ring back but never do so this time I refused to let them ring back and stayed on the line. Eventually the operator was talking to herself, not realising not on hold and heard her mumble "Hmm, why was that job cancelled?" so I took her up on that. She actually put me through to the senior supervisor who'd cancelled the job and who wasn't very happy that I'd been put through to him!

So again told the same old tale that not covered by their insurance when it was so, with the policy in front of me, asked him to quote the specific item that excluded it and tell me why it wasn't a leak. Then got told well it can't be done today as it hasn't been arranged to which I told him that it had been arranged and if he'd reallocated a man who was going to do the job somewhere else then he'd be able to reverse it. The next excuse was couldn't get the parts today so I informed him of the various plumbing merchants that stock the parts off the shelf in this locality and surrounding area. He told me he'd give my Mother special treatment and arrange it for 2 days time so I told him that it would be today and that wasn't negotiable.

Eventually after a lot of arguing, he lost all the arguments he tried to put forward, he agreed to send someone but it wouldn't be until the evening. Probably realised I wasn't going away! The plumber duly arrived and on questioning he told me the parts required were stock items on his van so he didn't have to go to any merchants! The job was carried out and the repair has held.

The follow up is that my Mother has now cancelled the standing order with Homeserve as not good to keep arguing and not get the job done for 6 days. Just think of what that would mean for an elderly person in the middle of winter?

The warning is DON'T TOUCH HOMESERVE!!!!!!!
