Newcastle Parking

Hi

Can anyone help me, i am staying at the premier inn at team valley trading estate on friday and saturday and i want to go to newcastle shopping. What is the best way parking wise to do this drop the car off at the hotel and get a taxi/metro to the centre or find a car park on the way to the hotel on friday?

Many thanks

Depends how much public transport you want to use?

The cheapest way will be to get a bus from the team valley into Gateshead, where you can get the Metro into the centre of Newcastle.

You'll be wanting to get to the bus stop just north of the roundabout, and I think it's the 93 into Gateshead and the 94 back out again, it's not far should only take 10 minutes to get to the metro station.

Which Premier Inn is it? There are two very close to each other. Neither of which started out life as Premier Inn's. One was a Premier Lodge and the other a Tulip hotel for only a matter of months before they sold it to Premier Inn.

If it is the one I think it is, then just come out of the hotel and towards the dual carriageway, then making sure you are on the right of the roundabout, you'll find a pedestrian crossing which will take you across the road and the bus stop is only 100 metres or so from there.

I always remember this as the entrance to the Gateshead garden festival, I still remember that well despite it being 19 years ago now!

Its the premier inn at main gate , there will be 5 of us using the transport so would it be cheaper to get a taxi?

We are going to a wedding on fri night which is at a hotel close by to the Angel of the North so i thought the premier Inn would be the nearest/cheapest hotel for 2ad and 2 ch. Is this right? The premier inn is £135 for 2 nights fri and sat, my oh and my 2 boys are going to watch Newcastle on Saturday afternoon.

If it is five of you then quite possibly it may be cheaper to just jump in a taxi. Especially as you could then miss out the metro and go straight into the centre of town. Especially if you are wanting to drop off your kids at St. James' park first.

The Angel View then? We thought about getting married there but they only do receptions, not ceremonies, and the function rooms are rather drab. Anyway, my future wife's grandad used to own that, when it was a farm (you didn't need to know that :p)

Sounds about right, the only other suggestion is travelodge. I'd avoid the ones at Washington Services, but Newcastle central is ok-ish. But if you can afford it Premier Inn is usually the best option.

We stayed at a travelodge the last time we went but it was awful so we thought we would pay a bit more and go to the premier inn one.

I havent been to the hotel before we dont live locally, we are going to the wedding "night do" so it should be ok, we are going to catch up with family that we havent seen for a while.

Many thanks for your help its really appreciated.

Hi sorry if Im being a bit dim but are you going to the Angel View on Fri or to town?

It's just that the Angel of the North is in the opposite direction to Newcastle from where you are staying.

Either way I would get a taxi

If its to the Angel then I wouldnt even attempt to go by public transport.

As there's 5 of you you will need to order a larger (6 seater etc) in advance.

I would use Blue line taxi's, they are known for being cheaper.

Hope you have a lovely weekend.

You arnt being dim, its me i havent explained myself properly, we are travelling up on friday but early so we will get there at about 11 ish so we (i) wanted to do a bit of shopping before the eveing night do at the angel inn, then on saturday my o/h and my 2 boys are going to the match so me and my mil are going to do a bit of shopping. It might be easier to go to the metro centre on friday and then into Newcastle on saturday leaving the car at the hotel. That way we can meet the lads after the match and then have something to eat. I just wanted to know the easiest way to do this, taxi or parking but i think a taxi would be easier, my mil is staying with relatives so she can meet us in newcastle so we only need a taxi for 4.

    Thanks for your help

Best to go by car to the Metrocentre. If you want the bus you'd have to go up into Gateshead and back out again. I guess just drive straight to the Metrocentre then park at the hotel and get a taxi to the Angel View. I could tell you which buses to get there, but again, it's complicated and it's not that far to go in a taxi.

For going into Newcastle you could consider taxi'ing it to Gateshead and then getting the metro, but with 4 people paying metro fares it's probably just as easy to get the taxi all the way, as we aren't talking about vast distances here.
