Equifax credit check trial

Not sure where to post this but hope someone can help me.

I signed up for the credit checks with the three credit file companies with the intention of cancelling them all within the one month trial period as per Martins article.

I managed to cancel two of them but despite my best efforts i couldn't get through to Equifax on the phone, being on hold for up to 30 mins numerous times. When i tried to contact them via email on their website, it didn't go through for some reason. So i wrote a letter and posted it on Friday 31st July. The money (£69.99) was taken from my credit card account on the 4th August. I really cant afford to lose this money, and only used the trial as i have had fraud on another account and wanted to make sure there was no marks on my file because of it.

Does anyone think i have any case in asking for the money to be refunded and if so what is the best way to go about it. Murphys law says if i try to phone now i'll get straight through but not sure what my rights are? I feel that their customer service is at fault as i couldn't get through.

Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks in Advance
Sunny Angel.

Why didn't you just pay £2 for the statutory report from each of the agencies?

You should try and contact the agency again and explain. If you get no joy then try your credit card provider and see if they will issue a chargeback on the item.
  • I didn't use the £2 option as i am that brassic, esp with being out of pocket until the fraud money is repaid! I thought that this way i could do it for free, as per Martins article,as i said in my op. But thanks for your helpful post. Will try your other ideas.

It is very common for people wishing to cancel to be kept on hold for up to half an hour, and when you get through they make it as difficult as possible for you to cancel. You just have to insist.

Whether half an hour is an acceptable length of time for you to have to wait is another matter, but it does seem a little unfair that to cancel you have to phone and they don't offer another way. Although it is stated in their terms and conditions.
  • I am having the same problem trying to cancel and I have been trying to get through to them to cancel the same day as I signed up. I have tried sending messages as per the guidance but have had no confirmation that they have even been read let alone actioned. I have also sent a recorded delivery letter informing them that I wish to cancel any and all services that I may have signed up to but have yet to hear anything back (was only posted last Thursday)

I have also been kept on hold waiting to get though to someone and having no luck.
