I have a friend who will ONLY buy steak if it is brown and has that shimmery look to it. She says it's much nicer, but I am a product of the 80's and think I would be the one person who would die as a result of eating it  I won't eat sushi for the same reason :rotfl:0

 really, what do they use to dye it with?
I too would eat brown mince.
Did I read somewhere they are getting rid of sell by dates? Or was I dreaming, its a load of rubbish in my opinion, if it looks ok and smells ok, eat it.
I think the problem is we eat with our eyes, and that isn't always a good thing, even if the OP did eat the mince I'm not sure she would enjoy it.0 -
I think that is complete rubbish to be honest. If there was dye in it it would have to be clearly labelled on the packet.madnessandmayhem wrote: »Supermarkets usually add dye to their meat so it looks 'better', and 'pinker'-if it smelt ok I would eat it!
The way it is packaged may help preserve the redness, which is why is browns when taken out of the packet.0 -

But there is nothing wrong with brown meat:rolleyes: I bought 5lb of mince from my butcher this week and it is all brown, as is the diced pork, lamb and beef I bought at the same time. It always is, it is supposed to be like that. The butcher would fall about laughing if I tried to get a refund because it wasn't bright red.where did u buy it from as i had the same thing happen and took it back to tesco and they refundede it ....

I get my meat from the Well Hung Meat company and the mince is all brown and smells meaty, very different to the supermarket version. Interestingly it has been much more of a learning curve for me than the kids. They loved it from day 1.0

If it smells deep and rich and a bit mushroomy, it's prob. going to taste lovely. Just don't eat it raw!
If it smells acidic and almost vinegary - give it to the foxes.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll
