Hi

Would you use a pack of mince that has been kept in the fridge has gone brown, but is still in date?

I'd eat it, unless it smelt bad :)

I would also use it. As long as it's in a sealed pack and been kept in the fridge. Just make sure it's cooked thoroughly.

I'm not really sure if it smells bad. I think it may have a bit of a funny smell, but to be honest I usually buy frozen mince, so not sure what it should smell like:confused:

I work on the assumption that if I don't wrinkle my nose or go Urrrghhhhh it should be OK as long as it's cooked properly ... but that's just me.

We never used to have use by dates and people in the olden days  had to work out if food was OK to eat by smelling and looking at it.

On the basis that hung meat is usually a lot browner than we get in the supermarkets I would use the mince. In fact I use the mince like that anyway, particularly if its been reduced in the supermarket. Am now getting my meat from the butchers and have noticed how very un pink their meat is.

Buy your bananas in bunches of 5 on Sunday. Then arrange them in order of ripeness and write a day of the week on each banana in felt pen, Monday on the ripest, Friday on the greenest to save time making those decisions on a hectic weekday morning

I have just been and had another sniff, and I think it is a bit whiffy!!! Maybe if I brown it and see how it is then?

    Thanks

Brown meat is not bad meat. It is supposed to be that colour. If you aren't used to the smell of real meat then it may smell a bit strange to you. It is in date -eat it;)

  • Supermarkets usually add dye to their meat so it looks 'better', and 'pinker'-if it smelt ok I would eat it!
