Barclays "premium" account - mis-sold?

Hi, during a chat with an older guy in the office today it came about that he had a "premium" bank account with Barclays which he is paying circa £12 a month for. I asked him if the benefits he got was worth £144 a year and after a couple of taps on the calculator it turned out that it wasn't. He said when he took the "premium" account out it offered travel insurance, car breakdown service and a discount on house insurance. It turns out that the travel insurance is not applicable as he is over their maximum age (he's 70). I feel that this should have been pointed out to him when he was offered the account and in a way it was mis-sold if one of the main benefits is not applicable to him. I feel he should contact his bank and ask for a refund - or at least a payment to cover the holiday insurance he has taken out in the meantime. What do you think? Has anyone got experience of this?

BTW he is currently completing forms online to move from Barclays after visiting the MSE website!! Woo hoo.

I think that what he needs to do is what one claimant did with LloydsTSB. He needs to sit down with his account and look at EVERY SINGLE benefit of the account he has working out exactly how much he did benefit from and how much he could have benefitted from it. He needs to write to Barclays and state that he believed that he has been missold the account and he needs to quantify how much he has paid against how much he actually saved and ask them for the difference on the basis that it was missold to him.
