I discoverd a couple of weeks ago that since my new meter was put in last march my electricity has been charged at the wrong rate ie night rate for day use etc.
I am waiting a revised bill and have been told that this will be backdated right back to last march. However i was under the impression that under the billing act that they can only go back 12 months from when the problem was detected. Can anyone tell me if this is the case?!?!?!?

Yes I can tell you, no it's not the case
(except possibly in certain circumstances, such as you had already alerted them to the error yet they failed to act to correct it)
Lots of info on when and when not the 12 month billing rule applies here:

I contacted them in june when i spotted it and the advisor told me that it was to my advantage and not to worry about it I wish i'd got his name cause thats a disgusting attitude to have. I then brought the matter up with them again in July when they rang me saying i owed me money from 2 years ago of which i was totally unaware of!!
Im totally unimpressed with British Gas and will be looking to go elsewhere when my fixed term ends in december!0 -
When was the meter changed? March 2008 or March 2009?
What was the money they requested from 2 years ago for? If they can't explain it they can't expect you'll pay it."Now to trolling as a concept. .... The meter was changed in March 2008!
The money from two years ago was apparently a bill from when i left British Gas to go to Powergen. There was a final bill for £140 something and I had paid half of it which left an outstanding balance that they never asked for and i forgot about.0 -
I am also still awaiting the updated bill from them with regard to the electric!0
