program for manipulating digital photos

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a program that is easy to use for manipulating digital photos (e.g. removing red eye, cropping, resizing, etc)

Preferebly one that is free and downloadable if possible.

At the moment i just download them to a hard drive and then upload to Kodakgallery and do any edits in that, but I'd like to be able to do edits on the image on my laptop before I upload them to my gallery

Thanks

I use the Gimp. It's free (and open source) and about as powerful as photoshop. It takes a bit of getting used to but there are loads of guides on the web.

Search in google for Gimp for windows
  • you could try paint.net or gimp2

    http://downloads.sourceforge.net/gimp-win/gimp-2.6.6-i686-setup.exe

both are free and can do all those things

Not familiar with Kodakgallery but see if Irfanview suits your needs here.

Picasa from Google can also do simple edits like the ones you specify. GIMP is a good program but very overcomplicated for the needs you listed.
  • To start with, I definitely recommend Picasa

It's free, and it was developed by Google. Like all Google products, it's super easy to use. The "I feel Lucky" button is an amazing 1 click fix tool. Plus you can fix red eye, do cropping, rotating, colour fixing, brightening, darkening etc.

Gimp and Paint.net are excellent and very powerful (I've used both), but they take longer to learn and for 95% of my photo manipulation I just use Picasa because it's so fast and easy to use.

    Hope this helps!

...and no, I don't own shares in Picasa ;-)
  • I like FastStone Photo Resizer

Dead simple and easy to use. Works a treat.
  • Picasa (as mentioned above) is easy to use and will suit you fine as long as you only want to do basic stuff.

Certainly consider Irfanview, Gimp and Paint.net if you want to do more.
