I handed over £632.50 to get my Home Buyer's survey today.
I asked to speak to the surveyor-he phoned and asked what I wanted him to look at specifically,so gave him a list.e.g wall ties, gable end, roof and damp. This would all have been included anyway in his report, but didn't want to hear too much about failed window units and stuff that was obvious at the time of viewing. His opinion was that our offer was fair in the current market and the condition/age of the property.
It seems a decent report,a few things need investigating further and we will be looking to lower our offer I think or negotiate with the vendor-but the survey charge was nowhere near indepth as a full structural which we were quoted £1K plus VAT for.

  • Our RBS valuation would have been around £250 but we paid for the homebuyers which was about £750 which now seems steep reading the above!
  • Often, these are "Application Fees" which include - but are not restricted to - the price of the survey.
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)
