Main Joist replacement

In the process of having a new bath installed last weekend, the plumber discovered that the main joist beneath was wet and probably rotten, the result of a poor seal on the previous bath.
I'm now entering the claims process, and an Assessor is visiting this week. The Plumber suggested that all the bathroom fittings will need to be removed to gain access to the joist or alternatively they may access via the kitchen ceiling (the room below).
I'd be grateful for any advice on an estimate on the likely duration for these works, given we only have the 1 bathroom we will probably have to relocate. Many Thanks in advance for advice. James.

If the damage is confined to just the end of the joist it should be possible to expose the damaged end from below for a distance of a few feet.

Then put a short stub of new from the wall to a good section of the existing joist and bolt the two together.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
