international caller keeps ringing and not speaking

Suspected call centre.
my number is tps listed, I dont give it out, but unfortenatly I think my sister has given it out behind my back as a contact number.
today I have had 68 calls from an international number (why do BT protect international callers?), the times I have answered it it just beeps on and off slowly, in the last hour its ringing every 30-40 seconds.
any ideas what I can do? BT claim they powerless and told me to just unplug the phone. But I reckon they deliberatly not helping me for some reason.

There is a BT member of staff on here, hopefully they will be along soon to help you. They normally seek out and find all BT related posts.

TPS only applies within the UK, they have no jurisdiction on overseas calls.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Could be an overseas fax number that's been garbled in literature/letter head etc and it corresponds to your number.0
