Barclay card have cancelled my account!

Yes too right I demanded the charges back and they did indeed give them me back. I missed minimum payments of £5 not £50 or £500. My total balance was never above £200. You seem surprised that I demanded the money back - I thought this was supposed to be a money saving site? Seems a lot of people here believe you should just lie down and throw your cash away at the first hurdle.
So you owe a company money, fail to pay and expect no repercussions ?
The level of charge may be wrong but they were well within their rights to apply some sort of levy IMO.
And for the record no i don't believe anyone should throw their money away.0 -
Thank you Moggles and Nickmack. From what I know I wasn't in default since I was never informed of this, and I really can't believe I missed all that many payments.
If I've read what you said correctly, it sounds like the info could be on file for 6 years rather than 36 months IF Barclaycard close my account? I am unsure of the situation here - my account is still open and there is a balance of 39 pence on it. However, they have refused to re-issue a new card, so I don't know if that means they'll eventually close the account or just leave it open but without a card?

I never said I didn't expect repercussions. I said I demanded the money back and they gave it me back. If you believe I was wrong to demand it back then that's up to you, but I'm happier with the money in my pocket rather than theirs.0 -
Yep, this site is full of apologist for the banks and people who have not read the top line "MoneySavingExpert.com Consumer Revenge". They seem to think they are on a site for bankers all saying how bad we customers are for complaining when they charge us £39 for going overdrawn 39p and that we should not have a life but instead everything should revolve around finance and shouting "how high" when the bankers say "jump".
But, no bank in the UK has ever charged me one single penny for using their services, in fact BarclayCard actually pay me to use their card, but of course I always keep in line with their T&C's, not really that difficult is it?0 -

Fine, but you honestly cannot complain if BarclayCard no longer want you as a customer.
You can't have it both ways.0 -
The status codes on your credit files should clarify the position. It sounds like the info could be on file for 6 years rather than 36 months IF Barclaycard close my account? Alternatively, If you ring Barclaycard Card Services on this Liverpool number 01604 230230, you'll avoid the perishing 0870/0844 numbers and the overseas call centre.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -

Once the balance is cleared the account will be closed. You cannot use that account anymore, but you'll need to clear the balance.0 -

So let me get this straight, you never even use the card other than once a YEAR for small amounts, miss minimum payments a number of times & you are getting all piddly that they don't want your custom anymore? What point is there in issuing a card you don't even use?
Not sure about Carrot, you sound more like a Plum to me. The general idea of having a credit card is to use it.
As already explained twice, I used the card approx once a year if I wanted to make an Internet purchase, for the payment protection that a credit card offers.
I was curious as to whether the card had not been re-issued due to lack of use or due to the missed payments (or both). At no point did I say Barclaycard was in the wrong, I was simply surprised they didn't re-issue the card when they have done in previous years. Yes, I used the card once a year to my advantage and no I'm not going to use a credit card for normal day-to-day purchases when I have the money sitting in my bank. For me the general idea of having a credit card isn't to use it (all the time). It's to use it for the odd Internet purchase and for paying things abroad on holiday on the rare occassion that I get to go away.
My main query though, was how it will affect my credit history.
I have now checked my report with Equifax (still waiting for Experian report) and it does indeed show 3 missed payments in the last 12 months. Sadly, it hasn't been updated for July and August and is still showing as in arrears when it's not. The good news though, is it's not in default.
What's more worrying is a search by Severn Trent Water with a description of "debt collection" and my name spelt wrong, filed in May this year. I called them and they said this was related to a bill which was paid late. I am guessing there is nothing I can do about this.0
