Signed football shirt - a really bad fake!

Options
Would appreciate a bit of advice.

My 10 year old daughter wanted to get OH a present for his 40th birthday - he is a massive Liverpool fan, so she decided that she would try and get him a signed Liverpool shirt from ebay.

She duly bid and got one for £25 - when I had a look it was a business seller and I had doubts but he had very good feedback.

Anyway the shirt arrived this morning - it is so carp it is untrue - all the signatures appear to be from the same person in different squiggles! the COA is just a laminated typed sheet. I think I might have accepted it if it looked a bit more genuine!

I paid by CC not paypal - even if they refund me I will still have to stand the cost of the postage and am therefore wondering whether I should go down the Trading Standards route instead?

I am cross with myself for paying for the item when I had doubts, but anyway it is done now.

Any thoughts?

TS...they love to find people selling fraudulent/forged stuff on Ebay....have you contacted the Ebayer though?....what was the item no?....is there anything in the description that makes the sale legit?...e.g. Shirt with signatures as opposed to signed by the actual team...also remember when a team shirt gets signed, the same pen is used by everyone...they do a batch for charities, clubs etc etc

I dont want to give the item number of the one I bought, but this is another one the same seller is selling:

    270439970813

The signatures all look the same - they also look nothing like the one on ebay (not that I expect it to be the same shirt, but I am just very dubious)

I have sent a message to the seller and am awaiting his reply.

As you didnt pay via paypal. You can report them via ebay for selling fakes. You will have to claim via your credit card for the lost money

Just had a thought you could always contact the football club. I'm sure they wouldnt like the idea of fakes flying around

I like the way that Liverpool have clearly lent their pen to Madrid too. Nice of them, that.

It says on one of the listings he offers a full money back guarantee. have you tried that route? i have no idea whether these are real sigs or not, only the club could tell you really.

Lets get this straight though, its not the shirt thats a fake its the sigs you think are fake? be interesting to see how it goes but i imagine th eseller has to prove these are the real signatures.

The shirt is real and actually the price I paid is OK for the shirt! the sigs arent real I am 99% sure - the shirt is like new, so if the whole team had signed it you would expect it to be slightly dirty or smudged.

The seller says that he will give me my money back if I send it back - I have now asked about postage as I dont want to send it back unless I get full postage.

In fact I would be better washing the 'signatures' off the shirt and keeping it as a shirt!
  • I would take a photograph of it and scan the COA and email to LFC and ask if they can confirm the authenticity?
I've had a couple of my club's shirts signed by the team and whilst they aren't dirty or smudged there is definitely a lack of uniformity in the autographs... some are upside down, one is on the back of the shirt lol but it's quite obvious they have been done by different people. However I don't have any COA as I got the players to do it myself not that I'd ever want to try and sell any of them.
I'm sure LFC would be interested/helpful if they thought someone was selling fakes.

From the auction link you gave it looks like the same person did all or the majority of the signatures as a lot of the loops and other reference points of the handwriting are the same. Also how has the guy gotten hold of so many "genuine" signed shirts in the first place?

Thats what I thought, he's making a killing out of it aswell if you look on his past items.

I would contact the club with clear pics of everything including the COA.
