How long does it take to switch bank accounts

I am having to switch banks as the suburb where I work, has closed down the branch I bank with. The branch closure got nothing to do with merging. The nearest one is 7 miles away. So, I am switching banks.

How long does it take to get the bank account sorted?

It took me 3 weeks from start to finish to switch from HSBC to Alliance and leicester (using A&L's priority switching service). I'm assuming it will vary according to the bank and how busy they are (e.g. A&L are busy when they have the 0% OD and £100 CB offer)

The new account was up and running within 2 weeks, then it took another week to get the DDs and SOs moved.
  • forever, (1 month+plus a weeks for mishaps) don't underestimate their incompetence to do the opposite to what you stated and what is there in black and white
