New DirectDebit from E-on
What a shock I've had! I 'capped' my gas and electricity last year (with Eon) and was paying £57 a month. They have now written to me to say I am in arrears and my DD has been changed to £110 per month! I understand that I do have to pay arrears, but if I'd known that by capping my charges I would land up with a bill like this, I wouldn't have done it. £57 is not a lot I know, but I was widowed 4 years ago, so am quite frugal with my usage.

yes I know the feeling - same thing happened to me with EDF - merrily paing £47 a month since the year dot and asked for the fixed price as soon as I got wind of it, minding own business for about 6 months then an arrears comes along for £237 followed by a hike to £86 pcm - it was cheaper to go back to the standard rate, which I did, but currently dithering about who to switch to. EDF offered eco 20 but not sure it is going to save as much - your provider actually came out tops on my searches.Life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale - Hans Christian Andersen2012 savings:remortgage £156.15pcm £5 pcm insurance reduced; 2012 Running totals: £10 goodwill requests/Grocery Coupons £12:T0

Hi Lulu7757,
It sounds like there may be a bit of confusion regarding capping your prices
If you change on to a capped tariff, this means that your unit prices will not increase, however, this does not mean that the Direct Debit will stay the same.
The unit prices are capped not the Direct Debit amount.
The payment amount needs to cover the amount of energy that you use, therefore, this can be increased or decreased to ensure the account will not fall in to a large debit or credit.
I understand that your payments have now been increased to £110, this will be to cover the energy that you use and to pay off the balance over a number of months.
If you are going to struggle to keep up with the £110 per month, I would ask E.ON to spread the debt over a longer period of time, this will make the monthly amount lower and the payments more manageable.
You may also want to look at alternative tariffs, to see if you would be better off, you can ask us to do this for you or you can have a look on the website.
I hope this explains things for you.
