Praise for Amazon Prime

I signed up for a free month trial of Amazon Prime to get free one day delivery of a birthday present I had ordered.

I was going to cancel it immediately but being a paranoid type I decided to wait until the parcel actually arrived. Then, stupidly, I went on holiday and forgot.

I noticed a direct debit had come out of my bank account - £47.97. The Amazon Prime annual fee. Woe is me, I thought, how stupid of me not to cancel it. Accepting it was my own fault I signed on to cancel the Amazon Prime subscription, thinking of ways I could hopefully 'make my money back' in savings.

Lo & behold when I got to the page to cancel the subscription, it said that as long as I hadn't used any of the Prime benefits during the subscription period my annual fee would be refunded in full. Oh dear I thought, how unfortunate that I DID use it to get that initial parcel delivered.

While a more conniving company may have classed that first use of the Prime benefits as during the subscription period, Amazon very fairly begin the subscription period the day you actually begin paying for it. So without me even having to request a refund (which I wouldn't have done) I received my money back in full within a few days.

Hurray for Amazon!

When I tried Amazon Prime, it took several days LONGER than the normal free delivery!
(Because they used a carrier who always tries to say our house doesn't exist, rather than the local postwoman, who knows where it is)
You're right it was easy to cancel though, no problem.
  • I ended up in a similar situation with Amazon Prime. I forget to keep track of when my free trial ran out and only remembered when I saw the charge come up on my statement.

Unfortunately I HAD bought something since my subscription had started. Extremely cross with myself as I thought there was probably no way of getting a refund now having used the service but thought I'd check anyway.

Bless you Amazon...you let me cancel the subscription and apparently because I hadn't used the service extensively since it had begun, I could still get a refund on the remaining 11 months.

I think that, given it was entirely my fault for forgetting to cancel the subscription, and having used it, this is an unexpected bonus that not many companies would have provided. Very impressed Amazon. Thanks

I signed up for, and cancelled this, today.
I know I would also forget otherwise!
Always best to cancel these things straight away for that reason, and you still get your full month's trial so you lose nothing.
I will always buy from Amazon whenever possible. I've even paid a few quid more from them as I trust them after all these years. Never had a single problem with them.
  • I signed up for the free trial over a month ago..
They charged me for the subscription and I only noticed today.. after I ordered something using prime! (I thought perhaps it was still a free trial.. but no..)

Whilst I accept this is entirely my fault.. how do I go about getting refunded for the 11months?
  • I signed up for the free trail the other day but will be cancellign very soon as when they made the delviery i realised they use the worst parcel carrier going (City Link) they only deliver during working hours and are miles away and whenever i ring them they are always rude.
Consequently I wont use any service / online delviery that uses city link

I've been paying for Amazon prime for over a year now and have always found the service to be very good up until the last thing I ordered a week or so ago, which was actually not sent out same day like it should've been an consequently turned up a couple of days late. A couple of complaining e-mails later and to their credit they gave me a £5 credit on my account.

Contacting Amazon seems a sensible idea.

Actually, they do seem very amenable to refunding people in the same situation as you are.
