You might find something on www.tripadvisor.co.uk ...................0 -
You've got yourself a cracking location there, it's so central and close to the beach, town, train station etc.
Don't know if you're travelling by car which affects what's available but here's some suggestions (I live in Scarborough)
You're two minutes walk down a big set of steps from the South Bay beach where you've got all your traditional seasidey things, the beach, amusements, donkeys, ice cream, harbour, lifeboat house and lots of restaurants/cafes.
You can also get the open top buses which take you round the marine drive, past Scarborough Castle and to the North Bay beach, which imo, is the better beach to go to. There's also the Sea Life Centre there, which whilst pricey, is good if it's wet weather. You can find 2 for 1 vouchers in local newspapers, tourist info etc.
Also on the Northside (or what's left of it as there's lots of so called development going on, which many locals are cross about) there's Peasholm Park which is a nice setting and has the naval battles on 3 times a week. There's a small train at Peasholm which has been going donkeys years, but is still nice.
If you have a car, a 25 minute drive away is Dalby Forest, a huge place that is good for families, lots of walks, play areas, lakes etc. It costs £7 a day to enter, but you'll get your moneys worth.
3 miles outside Scarborough there's a great farm for families called PlayDale. It has all the usual animals but has great play areas for kids too, including an indoor one for bad weather.
If you want restaurant recs, there's a cheap and cheerful Italian called Florios in the town centre, that gets a bit manic but it's very family friendly and good food too.
Nice Indian on St Thomas Street called Scarborough Tandoori and we've just got a Crown Carvery which is good for cheap meals.
Hope you have a good time. I'm local but even I've booked a room at the Travelodge for October half term just as a night away for my two.0 -
many thanks
One more thing - where to park cheaply ???

You can get a Parking Permit (from tourist information centers) which allow parking for a set number of days in most council car parks in the town (it may also include car parks in Whitby & Filey as it did last year.) It cost's from £10 for 2 days up to £35 for 7 days and the day you buy it is free (so 3 days for the price of 2, 4 days for 3 etc).
Flamingo land is great (although expensive). I've been several time this year with kids of 2, 5 & 9 and there was plenty of little rides for the youngest kids, indoor/outdoor play areas and large outdoor water play area. As A bonus to the rides, there are daily shows inc Postman Pat & animal shows and a SpongeBob 4D cinema ride.
There is a Nice family restraint just outside of Scarborough (next to Morrison), I don't know it's name but it's part of the Hungry Horse chain and offer great value meals (especially for kids).0 -
The Travelodge is slap bang in the town centre, so it's perfect for exploring on foot. It's a just around the corner from the main street, and a five minute walk down to the beach. I have to agree that the North side is a nicer beach though, it was my childhood stomping ground (back in the days of Zoo & Marineland and the open air theatre!), and it's still my favourite place in the whole world!
Filey is a lovely place, with a great sea-front and beach, and Filey Animal & Bird Garden is well worth a visit. You need a dry day though, because it's all outdoors. The Plough at Lebberston (half way between Scarborough & Filey) is a good family pub for meals, with an indoor and outdoor play area.
I believe the NCP car park just off North Street has a deal with the Travelodge offering discount parking.
Scarborough is a fab place, and there's so much to see and do, you won't be disappointed.

I am a scarborian
As others said its very close to beach 10 minutes tops most of which is down steps
Town centre is right on door step. It does have a deal with NCP on North street for car parking as mentioned in local rag. Thats just down the road on foot
You park at NCP, walk down steps or get lift into small shopping centre down Huntriss row (pedestrian only) and its dead opposite the lodge
You could drop bags of there then park
Your not far from both bays, north bay less commercialised and parking on marine drive is closeby but it does cost
Your also close to rotunda museum just down the road 5-6 minutes walk its just been done up early this year havent been in as yet but heard its good
Plenty of bars near that area one opposite and wine bars around corner near town hall, mainly fun/wine bars
Beautiful view of south bay outside town hall just down road and spa bridge is lovely near the grand hotel just around the corner0 -
personally i would stay away from the hungry horse, it was disgusting when we went last year
try the fish pan on the sea front best fish and chips ever0 -
pub at Morrisons is called hungry horse or was at one day. Mcdonalds is next to it too
I tend to not use chips chops on sea front myself its mainly for holidaymakers, caplemans near town or crossgates near morrisons are great.
There is a Harry Ramsdens on south bay near hotel but have heard it aint all that good
Also ice cream at Jaconellis (sea front) or world famous Harbour bar (near harbour), we have some of the best ice cream in country as its made from Italians who came over many years ago
There is some good cafes on sea front http://www.goldengrid.co.uk/ this one is next to harbour bar both on tv a lot.0 -

We used to go to Scarborough quite a lot and our kids loved Kinderland - a traditional play park, more active than passive IFSWIM. Don't know if it's still there, but was a great day for younger kids and not pricey. There was a longstay carpark next to it.
You can't beat traditional Scarborough fish and chips, and don't need a chain restaurant for that.
Don't know about the TL, but if it's a new one will be fine and good value.
Would second the poster who recommends Dalby Forest - beautiful.0
