Claim back tax paid on savings?

I have spent my pre-MSE life not really wanting to think about money (or lack of it) and before finding this site I just bunged any money into accounts and thought little about it. Now I realise that as a non-tax payer I should fill in a form to not pay tax on my accounts. Thing is, I have been paying tax for years
I've just read on another site that you can claim back the last five years of overpaid tax on your savings, but there was no more info. Does anyone know if this is correct, and if it is, how do I do this?
Thanks

The form you should have been filling in is R85 See HRMC guidance notes:-

As far as I can tell the form to claim back tax paid on interest is R40 see:-

See you citizens advice bureau if you need help. There may be more help in this forum and in the cutting tax forum.

You can claim tax back up to 5 years and 10 months from the end of the tax year in which it relates. So, put simply you can currently claim tax back from 2000-01, but the deadline for that year is 31st January 2007.
