Converting garage

My OH wants to turn the garage into a gym - at present it is open brick but we want to turn the inside into more of a room rather than a garage. We won't be adding any windows and don't want to reduce the size of it too much so that if we sell the house it could still be used as a garage and won't need any planning permission.

Am I right in thinking we need to drywall the inside or are there other techniques? We want smooth walls and possible creating some storage in the top with insulation so stuff doesn't get damp and can be stored up there.

Not got a clue so hope someone can advise - oh and any ideas of cost for a standard single garage?

TIA

  • Do check to see if there are any restrictive conditions requiring the garage to be only used for parking - you will need planning permission if there are. You don't want to find that out after doing the work, and having to take it all out!

Thanks - I will check this once we have an idea of how to go about doing it and how much it will cost.

I wouldn't have thought there would be because it could still be used for a car but we will choose to use it for storage instead IFYSWIM
