USB not reading on my Mac

Help please.

My USB stick does not register on my Mac (its a power PC G4 OX 10.3.9).

Before it would show up on my desktop but now it doesnt come up anywhere.

The USB stick indicates its working (a red light is showing on the stick)

(Dont know if this effects it but it only powers through a plug)

thanks PP

You tried it in a PC with windows or linux? If you have and get the same thing it might be the usb stick if it works its the Mac. The light indicates there power getting to it so might be the OS.
  • Thanks will try that.

If its the OS - how do i go about fixing it?

Plug the stick (what brand/size is it?) into the Mac again and run Disk Utility (inside Applications-Utilities). See if it appears there and if you can mount it.

It's extremely unlikely to be the OS and most likely to be the USB stick having become damaged or corrupted to a degree that has destroyed its file system to an extent that renders it unrecognisable to your Mac.

Check the functionality of the Mac's USB port by plugging something else into it.

Alternatively it could be that you've not removed it properly before pulling it out of the port. In linux this happens sometimes and theres a command you type in though I dont think it'll be the same, but being based on unix it could be this.

    Try another USB port also.
