Sat Nav Basics/Recommendations

Hi,
I tried to search for a best buy sat nav thread but didn't find one. Possibly because i don't really know how to use the search function properly.
I borrowed a friend's tom tom for the weekend and am now thinking of getting my own, but don't know a lot about them. I drive 50,000+ miles a year, all round the UK but not overseas, often to piddly little places.
What's good? any sites/threads i can look at for background info? I've a few hundred quid to spend if needed but if I could get a decent one for a ton then grand.
Cheers
Barry

Are you only interested in tomtom? I ask because I'd recommend the garmin i3. We've had one for a while now and its great. Its very easy to use and gives clear signals, so clear infact we sometimes turn off the voice and just go by the map directions. It looks a bit small when you first take it out of the box but once you get using it its fine.

I bought a Navman in Comet (xmas time was £179.00) and I find it great, no problem, I think they are a little cheaper now, does what it says on the box.

That's excellent stuff. Don't care if it's tom tom or whatever as long is it is effective. Any ideas on best retailer/prices to aim for?0

We paid £200 for our garmin but I think from reading other posts in the past they came down to about £100. Do a google search, should throw something up.
Good luck:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -

Another option is the Sony NV-U50T(T for Traffic), this has all the feature of the Tomtom ONE with the addition of TMC(Free traffic info) for £280, i would think the traffic info would be very useful with the amount of driving you do!!
Traffic info is available with the tomtom but you have to pay the PLUS service subscription and call charges or with the new units(510/710/910) buy the additional antenna for £70.
