Focus corrosion.

I have a 2001 Ford Focus and have noticed some corrosion starting to appear (from the inside out) on the passenger door around where the door mirror is mounted.
The local Ford dealer has submited the claim but dosn't hold out much hope as he says its around a mounted fitting so wont be covered
But yet the handbook mentions 12 year cover against body work corrosion.
Anyone any suggestions or experience of same?
