Are they difficult to maintain, I mean do they lose their shine after constant use. The house I have just bought have them replaced with brass and I am not keen on them, electrican said he could replace them with plastics, they do lose their shine and can be a problem when redecorating. I just would like some people opinion, wont brass switches have a more expenisve loook than plastic ones or is it depends on taste? Thanks

They were all over this house when we moved in a month ago - including brass light dimmer switches  As you say someone may have spent a bit fitting them. They may have been nice 20 years ago but to me it just looks like 80's chav.
Im going to stock up on good old white plastic double socket face plates and dimmer switches and replace the lot so if anyone wants around 20 brass face flates to pimp up their cribs drop me a pm..
You can change the face plate yourself very easy - just turn the electric off first!
