Can you take a payment break?

Hi
I am new to this forum and wondered if anyone can help me. We have £20.000 on credit cards which we were managing to pay £1000 each month off. My husband's company went into administration yesterday so he is now out of job. Does anyone know if you can have a payment break, has anyone else been in this situation. Our main priority is to pay the mortgage and bills.

Have you got Payment Protection Insurance that will take up the minimum payments until you are back on your feet?

Sometimes it has been known for people to have this and not be aware. If you check through your statement and documentation from applying you may have been paying this and can call on it.
