Does anybody know how much it would be for a train season ticket from Dundee to Newcastle?

Thinking of getting a season ticket for Newcastle United but dont want to travel down by car in the winter so was thinking of getting this.

Unsure how to search on rail websites have tried but totally lost :S

Also if you know whether you get disabled discount on season tickets.

Thanks

If you go to National Rail Enquiries http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/index.html you can use their journey planner and get timetable results with fares and availability.

The cheapest Saver Return between Dundee and Newcastle I found is only £56.10. You can also buy single fares for the journey, total cost about £43, depending on availabilty.

It'll be much cheaper to buy individual train tickets as you need them, as I'd imagine you travelling to 3-4 home games a month, instead of a monthly season ticket.

The NRE website also tells you which train companies operate between Dundee and Newcastle. Click on the links for these companies' web sites and check their season ticket prices.

I did a check and the monthly cost for a return would be:

    Dundee to Edinburgh £307.60 (Scotrail)
    Edinburgh to Newcastle £516 (GNER)

    Total = £823.60 (ouch!)

Thanks for the details spotter :)

    Mega dear :o

It's about time they made train tickets cheaper they'd fill the trains more rather than them being empty all the time :(

Would probably be cheaper hiring a car to travel :)

    Thanks very much

    Shamish,

Actually the train would be cheaper than a car if you work out the costs of hiring a car.

Dundee to St James' Park is a round trip of about 375 miles. This would cost about £38 in fuel alone, assuming 45mpg and fuel at £1/litre. Renting a car for a day is about £40 (Renault Clio 1.2 from Avis), then you've got car park costs at say £5.:o
Then there's the stress of driving that distance, finding a parking place and getting away after the match.

Tickets are also cheaper the earlier you buy them. The cheapest single tickets (outward & return) on 13/05/06 for instance is a total of £26.50.

So the train really is the winner here and will get you to within 1/2 a mile of the ground.:)
