A bright idea from m & s

Went to buy my lunch from M & S today picked up a pack of chicken legs amongst other things. Paid at the self service check out. As I left the shop it set of the security alarm as the chicken was tagged!

I don't think taged basic products and self service checkouts really mix!

It should at least have displayed a warning that I needed to take my chicken to customer services!

Nice one M & S

If they told you that the chicken was tagged, wouldn't that kinda negate the whole point of it being tagged in the first place?? After all, hiding a tag in something is a good way to catch shoplifters, telling them it's tagged so they can rip it off would be a most stupid thing to do...
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

tags are more designed to prevent shoplifting rather than to catch shoplifters.
And they should have at leat displayed on the till when it was scanned

Oddly enough, we once had someone try to walk off with about £40 worth of beef.

Yep, was in local Tesco the other week, some chav walked in, picked up an armful of smoked salmon, and tried to walk out. What was he going to do with it all, try to sell it on? I was baffled

Actually if you know the right pubs to go to you can get your Sunday lunch sorted for next to nothing. Its use to be the same with razor blades. I guess as retailers get more savvy with protecting stuff shop more bizarre stuff are going to get stolen.

Its very rare to see anyone challenged in some supermarkets when the alarms go off unless their is a security guard by the door. I once watched someone walk out of Asda with a £500 TV watched by staff. I then told the greeter at the front of the store who didn't really seem that bothered. The best of it is this guy ran through the checkouts with this TV. Alarms are going off and then had to wait for the revolving door to come round before he could run away from the store!

I don't think displaying on the self checkout that the product is tagged is really going to help shop lifters. I was hardly going to use the self checkout to find out if each product was tagged or not!

I am not asking for a great big sticker across the box!
  • fresh meat is often stolen to order by junkies, if they owe a dealer a certain amount of money they will have a proportion of the debt taken off that relates to the value of the items stolen.
although the amount taken off is often very small compared to the value of the items stolen, for example a £40 haul would often only earn the junky a few pounds.

as told to me by a security guard at my old works lol
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then ;)
