Dog acne?

My little pup (ok, so not quite a pup, a nearly 4 yr old boxer/great dane cross...) has been diagnosed with dog acne.
Has anyone else out there got a spotty dog, and can give any advice on how easy it is to manage. Not after medicine help or anything because the vet has already put us on the right path, just after the general day to day, whats it like to live with stuff....
Poor pup has got a right spotty face, but we have been told its fairly common.

Hi
I have 2 boxers and they have both suffered with terrible acne! Charlie (my eldest dog) had really painful looking spots on his chin and round his lips, they would weep and bleed if he knocked them! I took him to the vet who said it's a common complaint for 'teenager' dogs! The vet gave me an anti-bacterial cream to put on, but it was a pretty fruitless exercise as he use to lick his lips and rub his chin on his foot to get it off! They cleared up a few months later and haven't bothered him since.
Try and keep the area clean and dry (not easy i know with a big slobbery dog!!) I would think at 4 years old its a little more unusual as he has passed his 'teenager' years!
Good luck!

Mia my doberman is just growing out of her acne at 2 years old, I found bathing the affected area regularly helped alot. She would get bid spots under her fur, which burst and the dried up puss would come out when I brushed her, along with half her fur. So washing the puss away daily really helped. She got them worse on her neck so, we washed/changed her collar regularly aswell to keep the area clean.£100 - £10,0000

a dilute solution of hibiscrub should help, you can get it in boots.0

I have heard many people recommend lavender oil for dogs with spots, just wipe it over the spot.0

the vet gave us hibiscrub, and he doesnt seem that bothered about it at the moment which is good. Just hope they start to go away soon...he doesn't seem to be affected by the spots (he's eating fine and not scratching at them) but i cant imagine they're exactly lovely for him!
thankyou everyone for your replies. Presty just appears to be enjoying a bit more attention off everyone in the house, so coupled with the fact that he loves going the vet he's having a good week!0 -

That makes things easier if they enjoy going to the vets! One of my boys hates it, he won't get out of the car! I have to carry him in, which is not easy as he is a big lad. You should see the looks i get off the other people in the waiting room, poor little me with a big boxer dog sat on my knee shaking!!!:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

awww...the boxer i used to look after was like that...was one long drag from his house to the vet whenever he needed to go.
Presty is totally different. Tell him he's going the vet and he wants to leave the house that second to get there! His normal vet looks a little like my brothers OH who he adores, so that helps, and he knows he normally gets cheese with tablets afterward! Not convinced he doesn't deliberately get himself in bother just to go the vets!0 -

Has your boy had the snip? Funnily enough it was around about that time that both my boys decided that they didn't like going to the vets anymore!!:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:
