TomTom One Maps

I'm puzzled about maps for TomTom. I'm just about to buy a TomTom One v4. It took a while to decide - with so many to choose from - but eventually got there thanks to advice here and other forums.

There's a UK & ROI version and a Europe version, both at the same price.

I thought that (apart from the guarantee that you can download latest map within a month or so of purchase), you can only update maps or get additional ones at extra cost.

I don't really expect to drive in mainland Europe in the forseeable future, but if they're the same price, I started to think "Why not get the European one, just in case?"

So that then made me wonder if there is some difference in the quality of the maps ? Otherwise, why wouldn't everyone just buy the Europe maps version?

Would be grateful is anyone can put me straight on:
a. Whether you can download additional maps from TomTom without cost
and
b. Whether there is any difference in quality between UK and Europe versions of TomTom One.

I can't comment on the v4 as I've never had one. But I bought the Europe maps as the mapping for the UK is just the same, and you get Europe too, for the times I visit there.

More usually the Europe version would be retailing for around £20-£30 more than the UK/ROI version so if you can get it for the same price then get the Euro version, there are no disadvantages in doing so!

There are ways of getting TomTom maps at no cost, but those means are technically illegal. So yes new maps at cost through TomTom unfortunately.

As far as I can recall the Europe map just covers a wider area and the UK map included within it is exactly the same, just it needs a bigger memory card to reside on. So I don't think there is any difference in quality.

Plus the Europe version has a larger internal memory so you could put other large maps on it (USA etc) if you needed to.
