BT - not so free Evening and weekends plan

As advertised here
h**p://wwv .productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayCategory.do?categoryId=CON-HOME-PHN-R1&s_intcid=con_intban_overview_calls_home

BT are offering there evening and weekend call packages for £0 a month.
Unless you cancel your BT Line rental on which they will slap a £7.50 charge on you. + the remainder of your BT Line rental contract (Understandable).

Can any one else see the backwardness in this charge?
You get the product free and by continuing use of this service your costing BT a few pennies.
But if you cancel BT charge you for the privalige of not using this "free" product!

The webpage above has no mention of this charge and its not untill you go digging through there terms and condtions that it become aparant.

Surely this must be bording on misrepresentation of goods as there is no mention or implied charge for this service?

Comments

  • I dont know if its misrepresentation but it is a bit strange to say the least. I learnt from this forum that BT doesnt like to be so upfront about its charges or its special deals.

It's NOT 'free' but "inclusive" (with the agreed line rental). The extended incluseive bundle evening and weekends has a 12 month lock-in. The weekend only option has none.

They've been upfront in explaining the commitment in all the documentation I have ever read, so it is hardly BT's fault if you missed it!

Its not free however it is implied as being £0 which can easily be understood as being "free"
If they were upfront about the charge it would be in the small print on that page not hidden in terms and conditions.
    Its quite clearly not upfront.

And were did i say it had been missed? I'm simply pointing out how backwards this charge is!

I wouldn't say it is backwards. A company wouldn't just give you something for nothing, especially if you are planning to leave them in a couple of months time. It is recommended for anyone who is keeping their line rental with BT for the next 12 months. When you place an order for this package it is now part of BT's right first time to inform customer's of this charge twice on the call. And yes, it's not free it's inclusive.
  • You still have to pay your line rental if you cancel.
So BT get there money either way, it just makes no sense that if you stayed for 12months all you pay is line rental and get to use the service so in essence you are getting something for nothing, but if you cancel you pay the line rental and this £7.50 charge. Were is the sense in that?

If you cancel your order after BT provide the service you will incur a single charge of £7.50 (with the Unlimited Weekend or Unlimited Evening & Weekend plans) or £8.00 (with the Unlimited Anytime plan) for each month left of your 12 or 18 month minimum period.

Your note you dont pay any extra to cancel your line rental its all included ,and you dont pay anymore if you take the inclusive evening and weekend calls then a person that justs has the weekend package.
