You would have thought natural selection would have killed off the people who don't know how use-by dates work.

The dates to me are irrelevant. I'll use food after the use-by date if it smells and looks ok but if it smells gross and has mould i dont care if it is within the sell-by/use-by date. I use the dates as guides only and I like to think I know a bit about food.

BTW the two dates are not confusing. I just dont understand this country sometimes, ppl can be so thick. Maybe if people actually read the labels on food to see what junk they were putting inside them they'd not have problems with a simple sell-by/use-by date.

Jeez, come on people, its not so hard!

Absolutely - I use my eyes and my nose. To me the sell by/use by dates are a guide only.

I can't understand those who think that the food must go off at midnight on the day of the use by date.

It's just that some folks need more education than others. We're all thick in different areas.

    This is true, however:

Everyone lacks knowledge of stuff they really should know. There's stuff I don't know that I should know, there's stuff you don't know that you should know.

People need to be more accepting of this and not blame others for their lack of knowlege or expect special dispensation.

Rude attitude: "I don't understand this, therefore it is too complicated. People don't understand make it simpler. You are being patronising by expecting me to understand. "

Sumbissive: "Oh I'm just so thick I don't understand any of this."

Assertive: "Can you help me understand this?"

Or they would end up wasting money on bins full of perfectly good food.

We haven't had Sell by dates for years.

Oh come, everyone, that was an inspired and shrewd observation
