Skype credit - paying by credit card

We have just put Skype onto our PC to keep in touch with family in Canada.

I also bought £10 credit, using my Lloyds credit card to pay. But noticed this morning that I have been charged £11.50.

I can't find any information on either online statement as to why the extra £1.50 has been charged.

It's bound to be something simple, but can anyone advise?

    It's the VAT on £10.

Skype prices do not include VAT but tax is charged at whatever the rate of the country from which you are paying.
