HELP! PC won't switch on

Came home from holiday this evening. My son attempted to switch on the PC, which had been unplugged for 3 weeks, but there's zero response. Monitor and router work fine.
A green LED light on the back panel just below the power supply is flashing, but nothing else works at all. No fan, nothing.
Any suggestions what to do? The PC - a Compaq Presarion SR1219 - is over 4 years old and has never ever malfunctioned. It was working perfectly before we went away.
It would seem to be a power issue, but can I test for any other causes?
All help very gratefully received!!

Had a PC do that last week, replaced power supply unit (PSU). Typical, turn it off and it dies.0

Did you switch it off on the plug at the back and not just the on off switch? Just check it is switched on.

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
It's most likely a faulty power supply. There is on thing which you can try first which sometimes works on computers which have been switched off for a while, which is called 'ATX reset'.
Unplug _everything_ from the back of the tower unit, then press in and hold the power button for about 30 seconds. Plug back in the keyboard, mouse, monitor and kettle lead and see what happens. This basically discharges any capacitance in the PSU and motherboard which may be stopping it from working correctly. It's a long shot, but worth a try.0 -
Thanks for the advice. Tried all the suggestions but it seems to have died.
The old part is a Bestec ATX-300-12Z REV. Can anyone advise on what to buy to replace it? Are these things pretty standard? Or will I have to search hard for something exactly compatible?0 -
Looks like a standard ATX PSU to me, in which case finding a replacement should pose no problems at all.0

That's really helpful - thanks.0
